Volunteer

Volunteers are critical members of the Muscatine Art Center team. Each year, nearly 100 volunteers contribute an estimated 2,000 hours. Some volunteers return each week or each month while others help once a year to assist with a specific event, plant the flower beds, or work with staff on a collections project.

Regular volunteers often make steady progress on a project selected to suit their interests and abilities. These volunteers frequently help welcome visitors by serving as the greeter at the reception desk. Other regular volunteers assist with kids’ classes, scan archival documents, transcribe historic documents, process memberships, or enter collections information.

Some short-term volunteers work behind-the-scenes at events by cutting pies at the Annual Ice Cream Social, weeding the garden, prepping kids’ studio activities, polishing silver, or washing objects from the glass collection. Volunteers assist with school tours, guide kids and families through craft projects in the studio, supervise games during the Annual Ice Cream Social, take registrations at special events, help represent the Muscatine Art Center at community events, and judge ornaments entered in the Heartfelt & Handmade competition.
