A new theme is presented each month, and each class is built around a children’s book.
Class begins with an introductory art activity followed by the story and a main art project.
Mini Masters is an engaging program for young learners (ages 2 to 7) offered every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Nearly all classes for children are offered free of charge thanks to grants from the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine and Muscatine Charities.
June 2019: BUGS!
Yucky Worms - Who wants to be friends with a slimy worm? Follow along as kids learn about worms and why gardeners like them. Paint a picture with squishy “worms” and make an inchworm out of cereal.

How To Survive As A Firefly - What do fireflies eat? How do they hunt? What makes them glow? In this hilarious story we’ll learn all about the little bugs that light up the night sky. Make a firefly sun catcher and make a firefly with bubble wrap wings.

The Very Greedy Bee - Greedy bee finds a field of flowers but he doesn’t want to share with anyone. He becomes too full to fly and must rely on others to get home. Make a paper tube bee and paint a honey comb with bubble wrap.

Look Out, Ladybug! - Ladybug is learning to fly but she keeps bumping into other animals. Will she ever learn? Make a handprint ladybug and an egg carton ladybug.

July 2019: Fun in the Sun!
And Then Comes Summer - From flip-flops to fireworks and ice cream trucks to hide-and-seek, come celebrate the sunny season of summer. Paint fireworks using a paper tube and make a paper plate ice cream cone.

Come On, Rain - “Come on, rain” Tess pleads as the endless summer heat makes the plants wilt and the cats pant. Will it ever rain? Make a cotton ball rain cloud and a rain drop sun catcher.

A Camping Spree With Mr. Magee - Mr. Magee and his dog Dee are enjoying a nice camping trip when suddenly they find themselves plunging down the mountain! How did they get into this situation? How do they get out? Paint a camp fire with your hand and make a popsicle stick tent.

Zoomer’s Summer Snowstorm - Zoomer the dog wants to eat a snow cone, but when the snow cone making goes too far, it becomes a snowstorm! Follow along as he makes the most of his summer snowstorm. Make a Styrofoam snow cone and a dog from newspaper.

The Watermelon Seed - Crocodile loves watermelon, but is afraid to swallow a seed. What would happen if he did? Paint a watermelon print using kitchen sponges and make a paper watermelon wind sock.

Harry The Dirty Dog - Harry is a white dog with black spots. After a day of playing he’s so dirty he’s now a black dog with white spots! But he hates baths- will he ever get clean? Stamp spots on a paper dog with dog treats and make a spotted dog hat.

A Color of His Own - Elephants are gray, pigs are pink, but chameleons have no color of their own. A chameleon thought he could stay green if he sat on a leaf, but the leaf changes colors in the fall. Make a color changing paper plate chameleon and paint a watercolor and crayon chameleon.

Are You My Mother? - When a baby bird hatches, he can’t find his mother. Follow the baby bird as he asks all the animals, “Are you my mother?” Paint a handprint bird and decorate a paper nest with a fuzzy pom-pom bird.

But No Elephants - Grandma Tildy was all alone until she got a pet from a salesman. She welcomed all sorts of animals, but she made it clear she wants no elephants! Make a bubble wrap turtle and a paper tube elephant.
