Japanese Garden Ribbon Cutting & Storyteller Kuniko Yamamoto
The rehabilitation of the Japanese Garden was multiple years in the making. Celebrate the completion of the project by joining us for a special ribbon cutting followed by a performance by Kuniko Yamamoto featuring Japanese folktales combined with traditional musical instruments, magical masks, origami, and mime to create a spellbinding story. The performance is part of the Quad City Arts Visiting Artist Series. Admission is free of charge. Reservations are not required. Light refreshments.
Welcome to the infinite world of Origami! In Japanese, ori means "to fold" and gami means "paper". Using origami, music and audience participation, Kuniko provides a magical introduction to Japanese culture and the art of simplicity. In "Origami Tales", mythological character masks & puppets, amazing flowers and a dragon—all made from origami—set the stage, while Kuniko shares heartfelt stories from ancient Japan.
