From the Vault: McKenney & Hall Prints

Thomas McKenney was an early advocate for Indigenous Americans and the survival of their cultures. Between 1836 and 1844, he published “History of the Indian Tribes of North America”, a series of portfolios that featured hand-colored lithographs based on paintings by prominent portrait painter Charles Bird King. In addition to biographies written by McKenney, a large essay on the history of Indigenous Americans by writer James Hall was included. This exhibit will showcase over 30 McKenney & Hall prints from the Muscatine Art Center’s permanent collection.
