Artist’s Statement

Welcome to the dreamlike world of Master James Walker Henry…his works of art are basically documentation of life’s events and people through his paint and brush. While Henry works with subjects about social and political issues, his viewing audience sometimes finds his paintings bold and beautiful while others sometimes find them harsh and disturbing. All and all, people who visit a Henry exhibition will always remember what they saw and it will leave a lasting impression…inside the mind of this diary of a madman. Artist Bio

James Walker Henry (born 1961) – An American surrealist painter living in Burlington, Iowa, Heartland of the U.S. For more than 40 years, Henry has created over 2,000 pieces of art addressing social and political issues through his paint and brush. His works are symbolic and metaphoric, dealing with items and issues that have affected many people throughout time. When starting a piece of art, his vision is broken down into items and ideas, hoping this can help the viewer understand the reasoning of the painting. Some people have felt his art as being beautiful and inspiring, while others may feel it as being somewhat harsh and disturbing. The viewer attending a James Walker Henry exhibit, like it or not, will always remember his works of art.

In over a forty-year span, Henry has exhibited his surreal works of art…one hundred sixty times (110 solo exhibits). James’ art has also been published over one hundred times in newspapers and published six times in major art publications such as Surreal Magazine, New Art Examiner, Manhattan Arts, Art Speak, Art Scope, and Who’s Who in American Art. Henry’s works have been added to public and private collections in countries such as Ireland, Holland, Brazil, France, Germany, England, South Korea, and Costa Rica. Also, James has exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States.
