Springs Sprockets & Pulleys

Bridging the gap between fine art and fun.  Gerberich's gadget have been described by Charles Osgood of CBS Sunday Morning as "common objects, made uncommon" and NBC Today Show's Gene Shalit had called them "brilliantly eccentric" and "ingenious".  Certainly Gerberich's work offers viewers a unique way to interact with contemporary sculpture, explore the principles of simple mechanical motion or simply ponder the remarkable inventiveness of art.



    
 

                               
 
 

     
                                 


A painter and photographer by training, Iowa born sculptor Steve Gerberich cites Marcel Duchamp, Alexander Caulder, Joseph Cornell, and his late brother Tim as inspirations for his work.  After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa in the early 1980's with a BFA in photography, Gerberich moved to New York City.  Here his photographic work transformed into large-scale kinetic storefront window installations for major department stores including Bloomingdale's and Macy's.  Once Gerberich's work broke " out of the box". there was no putting it back into small spaces or quiet still lifes.  Since then his works had been exhibited at NYC'S Grand Central Terminal , in London's Royal Festival Hall, and at major museums across the U.S.
